Cape Town Fish Market | It doesn't get fresher

Food A large, crowd-pleasing menu offers something for every palate — although the focus remains on seafood. If you find yourself overwhelmed by options, the platter for one offers an affordable way to taste several seafood dishes.

The calamari is tender and lightly battered, the fillet of hake is beautifully cooked — not a minute overdone and still juicy and sweet. A prawn and steak burger is an updated version of the surf and turf concept — and all components are nicely cooked.

For dessert, tuck into a Mississippi mud pie — a little dome of chocolate mousse atop a dark cocoa cake base.

Alternatively, throw all caution to the wind and try the vast choc nut sundae with chocolate sauce. Drinks There is a concise, but well-balanced wine list of predominantly fairly easy-drinking options. If the location has you in the holiday mood, sample one of the well-priced cocktails.

Inside, the large venue is cleverly portioned to create different areas for different occasions. Get the latest restaurant and food news delivered to your inbox every week! Service Well-trained staff keep things running smoothly. And… Nab a seat outside for the best views and holiday vibe. Just been there for a light supper. Worst fish cakes I have ever tasted. Weren't properly cooked and the fish "swam" through them. The "salad" was so brown and old it was a disgrace. The service and the wine were good, but won't be going back there or recommending it.

Yesterday a group of friends and I about 10 people went to CTFM waterfront, we waited 30 minutes before our waiter came to our table and another 20 minutes to get our drinks order - no drinks menu was even placed on our table.

We ordered immediately both drinks and food and waited a further hour for our food to arrive, I had ordered the Surf and Reef which was ribs and prawn, the ribs were ROCK HARD, I literally knocked it on the hot plate and it made the sound a rock would have made had I hit the rock on the plate and the prawns looked as if it had been regurgitated.

The rest of the tables medium steaks steaks were basically burnt. At the end of the night, as it was 11pm, we arrived at 8. The waiter acknowledged the bad timing of the kitchen and drinks and hoped it would be better next time, sorry my friend there won't be a next time.

CTFM needs to get their house in order especially at this store as it is a premium destination. Cape Town Fish Market Greenstone is pretty new to me since I moved to the area. Sushi was great from the sushi bar.

My last experience, absolutely disappointed. I would really love to know who quality controls the food before it comes to the table.

Service got worse from my first experience. In my opinion you really need to ensure your staff are trained properly including the manager on duty. Saddened by my experience. WE ORDERED 12 LOBSTERS AND 2 HOUTBAY PLATTERS JUST FOR THE FOUR OF US WE REALLY ENJOYED THE FOOD, THE LOBSTERS WAS GREAT!!!

HE THEN BACKED DOWN AND SAID "NO' ITS OK! I WAS FURIOUS I MEAN WHY DID HE DO THAT! WILL I TAKE MY GUESTS TO CTFM AGAIN??? Perhaps one should prepare customers by mentioning to them beforehand that they are prepared that way to avoid disappointments when expecting a simple grilling in lemon, or at least give them the option.

Unfortunately, we won't be back and would rather go to a local Ocean Basket for better value and far better food than back to Cape Town Fish Market.
